Selena Gomez Shares Emotional Message About Immigration Sweeps Before Deleting Video

Selena Gomez, the Mexican-American star of “Emilia Pérez,” recently shared a heartfelt video on her Instagram story addressing the immigration enforcement sweeps initiated by the Trump administration. The operation, which began Sunday, led to over 1,000 arrests across the U.S.

In the now-deleted video, Gomez was visibly emotional, expressing sorrow over the impact on immigrant communities. Through tears, she stated, “All my people are getting attacked,” and apologized, saying, “I wish I could do something but I can’t. I don’t know what to do. I’ll try everything, I promise.” She added the Mexican flag emoji alongside the text “I’m sorry” in the video.

Following the initial post, Gomez shared another story stating, “Apparently it’s not ok to show empathy for people,” which has also since been removed.

The emotional video sparked reactions, including criticism from Tom Homan, a border czar, during an interview on Fox News. Homan questioned Gomez’s focus, pointing to issues such as fentanyl deaths and child trafficking, referencing claims that have been previously criticized for distorting federal statistics.

The immigration sweeps were part of a nationwide operation involving Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE), the Justice Department, and other agencies. By Monday, over 1,100 arrests had been reported across states including California, Texas, Georgia, and Puerto Rico. Officials described the operation as targeting public safety and national security threats.

While Gomez has not commented further, her deleted video highlights the deeply emotional responses immigration enforcement actions often evoke, especially among those with personal or cultural ties to affected communities.
